As we head into April, it’s time for the end of Daylight Saving in New Zealand! Here’s a quick reminder: At 3am on the 6th of April, New Zealand will "fall back" one hour. This means we’ll set our clocks an hour earlier to make the most of the daylight during the cooler months.

Daylight Savings Time (DST) means adjusting the clock to make better use of daylight during the longer days of summer. In the spring, clocks are set forward an hour, and in the autumn (fall), they are set back an hour. The goal is to extend evening daylight in the summer, allowing more daylight hours for outdoor activities and helping reduce energy consumption.

So, on April 6th, 2025, we will move our clocks back one hour at 3:00 AM, which becomes 2:00 AM. This is also known as the "fall back" time change.

How Does This Affect You?

If you're studying remotely or staying connected with family and friends back home, the time difference will change. A few examples being -

  • India: New Zealand will be 6.5 hours ahead (NZST).

  • Philippines: New Zealand will be 4 hours ahead (NZST).

  • China: New Zealand will be 4 hours ahead (NZST)

  • Thailand: New Zealand will be 5 hours ahead (NZST).

  • Fiji: New Zealand will be 1 hour ahead (NZST).

  • Nepal: New Zealand will be 7.75 hours ahead (NZST).

Why Should You Care About the Time Change?

For international students, this means you may need to adjust your schedule for classes, meetings, or catching up with loved ones back home. It’s important to stay updated on the time changes, especially if you’re arranging meetings, attending virtual classes, or planning social calls.

The time change can sneak up on us, but with a little reminder, you’ll stay on track!

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the time change, and we’re here to support you with anything you need. Enjoy the daylight and keep up the great work with your studies!

Happy April!
